Background

Beyond Crisis: Innovating Community-Led Approaches for Remedy and Corporate Accountability spotlights how civil society and grassroots communities are driving inclusive, rights-based solutions to corporate accountability. Through real-world cases, participatory tools, and dialogue, the session explores how community innovation can transform business practices and strengthen access to remedy in crisis and non-crisis contexts alike.

Key Objectives

  • Present and synthesize insights from the three panel cases: (1) Samta Nyay Kendra’s work advancing legal rights, social justice, and BHR for the transgender community in Chandigarh, India; (2) the Cirebon Coal-fired Power Plant or Chiang Khong hydropower case using the NCP mechanism; and (3) a lawsuit against companies and related human rights action plan.

  • Examine effective laws, mechanisms, and grievance systems that can improve access to remedies for communities and workers while ensuring non-discrimination and inclusion.

  • Explore strategies for businesses and stakeholders to ensure meaningful rightsholder engagement and bridge the gap between commitments and tangible human rights improvements in supply chains.
