Overview
Smallholder and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) inclusiveness in value chain traceability and value contribution ensure that migrant workers, seasonal laborers, small-scale producers and local businesses are not excluded from global markets as stricter compliance, sustainability, and transparency standards take effect.
Background
For decades, global trade operated on long, opaque supply chains with multiple layers of middlemen. Global brands bought commodities (cocoa, palm oil, coffee, garments) without knowing—or asking—exactly which farm or worker produced them. This allowed companies to access cheap raw materials while smallholders and informal/migrant laborers absorbed market risks, received minimal margins, and lacked formal protections.
Activities
Presentation : What is dMRV? : Keynote introducing Standards and digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (satellite GPS plot mapping, mobile worker logging, blockchain/ledger integration, and automated ESG auditing).
Breakout Exercise : Groups map a mock supply chain using a world map / diagram template. They identify where dMRV data is generated vs. where it gets lost
Plenary Sharing : Each table presents 2 major operational risks of implementing dMRV in their value chain segment.
Solution Workshop : Table groups choose 1 core challenge (e.g., Offline farmer data entry or Anonymous worker grievance reporting) and design an inclusive operational workflow.
Gallery Walk : Participants walk around with sticky notes to review and critique other groups' workflows.
